铁饼铁饼discusthrow在投掷圈内通过旋转用单手将铁饼掷出的田径运动投掷项目。掷铁饼运动有悠久的历史，公元前776～公元393年古代奥林匹克运动会的五项运动中就有掷铁饼比赛。远古时的铁饼并不是铁制的，而是一个圆形石盘，是由狩猎时的武器演化而来的。比赛时，要求投掷者站在一座石头台子上进行投掷，投出的铁饼，不但要求远，而且要求准。1896年第一届奥运会和1928年第九届奥运会先后将男子和女子铁饼列为正式比赛项目。现代铁饼为圆盘形，中间厚，周围薄，用金属和木料（或其他代用材料）制成，男子铁饼重2千克，直径22厘米；女子铁饼重1千克，直径18厘米。运动员必须在直径为2.50米的投掷圈中将饼掷出（为保证安全，投掷圈周围要装有“U”字形铁丝护笼），铁饼须落在40度的扇形落地区内。运动员要在铁饼落地，身体稳定后，从投掷圈的后半部走出，成绩方为有效。掷铁饼成绩的丈量是以2厘米为最小计算单位，从铁饼落地痕迹的最近点取直线通过投掷圈中心，量至投掷圈内沿为准。掷铁饼技术过去多采用原地掷饼、上步掷饼、侧向旋转掷饼，后来发展为背向大半径旋转掷饼。其中，背向大半径旋转掷铁饼技术为大多数优秀运动员所采用。其基本技术由持饼、预摆、旋转、最后用力、维持身体平衡5个动作阶段所组成。
