地理坐标地理坐标geographicalcoordinate用经度、纬度表示地面点位置的球面坐标。地理坐标系以地轴为极轴，所有通过地球南北极的平面，均称为子午面。子午面与地球椭球面的交线，称为子午线或经线。经线是椭圆。所有垂直于地轴的平面与地球椭球面的交线，称为纬线。纬线是半径不同的圆，其中半径最大的纬线称为赤道。地球面上一点的纬度，是过该点的法线与赤道面上的交角（j）。纬度是从赤道起算，赤道上纬度为0°，向北至北极为＋90°，称为北纬；向南至南极为－90°，称为南纬。图片经度是过一点的子午面与本初子午面所夹的二面角(λ)。1884年国际子午线会议决定，通过英国伦敦格林尼治天文台（原址，1953年天文台已迁至新址）的子午线为本初子午线（或称首子午线），作为计算经度的起点，本初子午线的经度为0°，向东从0°到＋180°，叫东经，向西从0°到－180°，叫西经。地面上点的经纬度须用测量方法求出，用天文测量方法测定的叫天文经纬度，用大地测量方法在参考椭球面上推算的叫大地经纬度。同一点的天文经纬度与大地经纬度有微小差异。地图上所用的经纬度是大地经纬度。一般在小比例地图上均绘有地理坐标网，并注明相应的经纬度。中国规定大于1∶100万的地形图按经纬度分幅，地形图的内图廓即为经纬线，图廓四角注有经纬度。
