地图分幅按一定方式将广大地区的地图划分成尺寸适宜的若干单幅地图，以便于地图制作和使用。分幅形式有：①矩形分幅。图廓呈矩形，相邻图幅以直线划分。矩形大小多由纸张和印刷机的规格（全开、对开、4开、8开等）而定。优点是各图幅间接合紧密，便于拼接使用，各图幅印刷面积可相对平衡，利于充分利用纸张和印刷机的版面。缺点是图廓线没有明确的地理坐标，整个制图区域只能一次投影，常用于局部地区的大比例尺平面图和中小比例尺挂图和地图集；②经纬分幅。地图的内图廓近似梯形，常用于基本比例尺地形图。地图分幅时要顾及用图要求、纸张幅面和印刷条件。中国7种基本比例尺地形图均按经纬线分幅，以1∶100万地图为基础，按规定的经差和纬差划分图幅，因经线的收敛，各图幅尺寸不同。
