信道信道informationchannels信息传输的媒质或渠道。在电信或光通信(光也是一种电磁波)场合,信道可以分为两大类:一类是电磁波的空间传播渠道,如短波信道、超短波信道、微波信道、光波信道等;另一类是电磁波的导引传播渠道。如明线信道、电缆信道、波导信道、光纤信道等。前一类信道是具有各种传播特性的自由空间,所以习惯上称为无线信道;后一类信道是具有各种传输能力的导引体,习惯上就称为有线信道。信道的作用是把携有信息的信号(电的或光的)从它的输入端传递到输出端,因此,它的最重要特征参数是信息传递能力(也叫信息通过能力)。在典型的情况(即所谓高斯信道)下,信道的信息通过能力与信道的通过频带宽度、信道的工作时间、信道的噪声功率密度(或信道中的信号功率与噪声功率之比)有关:频带越宽,工作时间越长,信号与噪声功率比越大,则信道的通过能力越强。
