海进 在相对短的地史时期内，由于海面上升或陆地下降，造成海水面积扩大，陆地面积缩小，海岸线向陆地内部推进的地质现象,也称海侵。一般认为,海进是海水逐渐向时代较老的陆地风化剥蚀面上推进的过程。因此，一个海进面就是一个不整合面,也是一个典型的穿时面,即由海洋向陆地方向海进面由老变新。如华南泥盆纪自西南向东北的海进，在桂中，下泥盆统与寒武系角度不整合接触；在湘中，中泥盆统与前寒武系角度不整合接触；在武汉，上泥盆统与志留系平行不整合接触。由海进作用形成的地层记录称海进序列（如图）。 海进序列由下到上一般是：沉积物由粗变细或由碎屑岩相变为碳酸盐岩；沉积时的海水由浅变深；陆相沉积含陆相生物群逐渐演变为海陆交互相沉积含海陆相混生生物群以至海相沉积含海相生物群。在地层所含地球化学元素类型、丰度、相关元素的比值以及地层的物理性质和地层的含矿性均有明显的演变特征。如湘中中泥盆统海进序列：下部跳马涧组，自下到上由含植物化石碎片的河流沉积演变为含植物化石碎片和腕足化石碎片的三角洲沉积或滨海、潮坪碎屑岩沉积；上部棋梓桥组为含腕足类、珊瑚、层孔虫、海百合茎的碳酸盐岩沉积。 海进常常具有周期性和旋回性，在时间和空间上有不同级别和规模。在显生宙，已识别出三次大规模的海进事件，即中奥陶世、早石炭世和晚白垩世。这三次海进事件在全球不同地区均有不同程度的反映，形成了广布的海相沉积和碳酸盐岩沉积，以及与之伴随的海生生物群的繁盛。 海进有不同的成因，一般可归为 4种：①气候变化。特别是极地气候变暖导致冰川融化，海平面上升，常常形成全球性的海进。反之，则形成全球性的海退。②地球自转速度的变化。地球自转速度加快，赤道地区海进，两极地区海退；地球自转速度减慢,赤道地区海退,两极地区海进。这一观点是中国地质学家李四光提出的。③构造运动。不同级别和规模的构造运动可形成不同级别和规模的海进或海退。如洋中脊扩张加快、体积增大，可在两岸地区发生海进。④地球的膨胀或收缩。一般说来，地球膨胀导致全球性的海进，地球收缩则造成全球性的海退。 海进或海退可由一种因素引起，也可能由几种因素的叠加（增强或减弱）引起。海进或海退可能起因于地内，也可能起因于地外或起因于地内和地外因素的综合作用（见海面升降运动）。
