砂壳虫属 原生动物门肉鞭动物亚门根足纲表壳目砂壳科的 1属,通称砂壳虫。大小因种类而异,30～300微米不等(见图)。除和变形虫一样能伸出片状或叶状的伪足外，整个原生质包在一个硬壳内。壳内层有几丁质膜，外面粘附着由矿物屑、岩屑、砂粒、硅藻空壳等构成的粗糙表层。壳呈半球形、卵圆形、梨形等。有的壳向前延伸成颈，有的壳冠突出几个长角，也有的壳覆盖着桑椹状的突起。壳的横切面大都呈圆形。口在壳体的一端，位于主轴正中。壳口的外缘有的光滑、有的齿状、有的分成3～4叶瓣状。虫体摄食或行走时，可伸出2～6个指状伪足，把壳体顶起，象蜗牛似地在基质上爬行。遇刺激或敌害时，伪足立即缩入壳内。细胞质占壳腔的大部分，用原生质线固着于壳的内壁。核一般只有1个,伸缩泡1至多个。 砂壳虫分布在淡水的池塘、湖泊、沼泽、水库以及森林土壤中。如在中国长江中下游湖泊中常见的冠砂壳虫。砂壳虫可作为鱼类的饵料。
