棘腹蛙(石坑、石蛙、梆梆鱼、石蹦)国内分布于四川、云南、贵州、湖北、湖南、江西、广西、甘肃、陕西。体大而肥壮。体长97-110毫米,雄蛙稍大。皮肤较粗糙,背面有若干成行排列的窄长疣,趾间全蹼。雄性前肢特别粗壮,胸腹部满布大小黑刺疣。成体背面多为土棕色或浅酱色。上下颌有显著的深棕色或黑色纵纹。两眼间常有一黑横纹。背部有不规则的黑斑。四肢背面有黑色横纹。咽喉部棕色花斑较多。瞳孔菱形,深酱色。生活在水流平缓的山溪里或流溪旁的静水塘肉。白天匿居溪底石块下或洞内,天黑时出穴活动。繁殖季节在5-8月卵产于小山溪瀑布下水坑内,粘附在石上或植物根上。卵大卵在胶膜内成串悬挂在水中。蝌蚪一般分散生活于小山溪水坑内。由于体大肉肥,过去捕杀严重,造成资源数量严重下降,应大力宣传加以保护。
