黄鼠黄鼠groundsquirrels松鼠科中2属约31种地栖穴居种类的通称。因多数个体被毛色浅，呈沙黄、灰黄或土黄色而得名。细趾黄鼠属也称沙松鼠属，分布于伊朗、阿富汗、前苏联。黄鼠属约30种。分布于北美洲、欧亚大陆。一般所说黄鼠多指黄鼠属中的动物。多纹黄鼠黄鼠体型中等，略似家鼠，但眼大而突出；外耳退化，仅留残迹；四肢均衡，前爪锐利，中指尤其发达，是挖洞穴的有利工具。黄鼠主要栖息于森林草原、荒漠平原、半荒漠草原，少数种类如长尾黄鼠可分布到海拔2000米以上的高山地区。本属种间体型差异较大，最大者为北美大黄鼠，最小者为北美小黄鼠。毛色差异亦甚显著，尤其在北美洲，不少种类具有明显的斑点或条纹。黄鼠属在中国分布有6种。黄鼠危害农作物，破坏牧业草场，又是鼠疫菌的主要携带和传播者，为重点杀灭对象之一。
