端砚端砚中国传统名砚。产于广东端州（今肇庆）东郊的羚羊峡。1500年前即出产此砚。端州之石为水成岩，质地细腻、坚实、嫩滑、润泽。古时其山有三坑，最上坑为上岩，石腻如凝脂，弹之音若朽木，色青黑，温润如玉，上有夹生黄、赤、翠绿相间的圆状瑕翳，名之“眼”，根据形态，有“鹆眼”、“鹦鹉眼”、“猫眼”、“绿豆眼”等名，又根据色泽有“活眼”、“泪眼”、“死眼”之称。还根据位置，池上者为“高眼”，池下者为“底眼”。中岩之石，其色皆灰、紫，叩之无声，间亦有眼，磨墨无声，发墨光润，贮水不耗，如绿如葱或白如蕉背者皆上品。下岩之石，色带青花，发墨青而润，亦佳砚。五代、宋时，得下岩于下坑之北壁、南壁，北石泉水全浸，南石泉水半浸，其润泽北胜南。宋代时壁凿洞，元代禁闭，明代永乐、宣德年间暂开即闭。崇祯末年熊文灿私开谓熊坑。清代则深洞凿取，佳者愈少。
