钙质超微化石钙质超微化石calcareousnannoplankton1~35微米大小的碳酸钙质化石。包括颗石藻类所产生的颗石及与其相似的化石,也包括与颗石化石共生并且大小相近,但形状不同,归属不明的绝灭类别如白垩纪的微锥石类与第三纪的盘星石类等。颗石金藻门颗石藻纲单细胞生物的产物。颗石藻既具载色体,可以制造营养;又有鞭毛可以运动。因而长期被动物学家视为动物,被植物学家归为植物,但多被列为藻类并采用植物学命名方法。颗石藻在细胞的外层分泌出颗石,并排列成球面状,形成颗石球,每个颗石藻所含颗石数量不等,最多可达200余枚,即使同一种的个体其颗石数量亦有一定幅度变化。颗石由许多细小的方解石晶体排列而成。通常的颗石由近极盾和远极盾相叠而成,在正交偏光下颗石的盾显示出四条消光带。颗石通常呈椭圆形颗石、桥石、艾氏石、圆形钙盘石、螺旋形螺球石等,也可以为边缘加厚的盘石形(条球石)及边缘高耸的(篮石)或长菱形的舟石型(舟石)和长棒形的棒石型(棒石)等。非颗石类碳钙质超微化石与颗石类形状不同而与之共生,一般构造比较简单,大多由少量的方解石晶体构成,个体也往往较大,如五个片状晶体构成的五边石型、两个晶体组成钩形或马蹄形的角状石型、几个长形晶体构成的星石、短柱楔形的楔石型等等。有的已经查明属性,如由多边形晶体组成空球状的胸球石属于钙质甲藻。经济意义及应用可靠的钙质超微化石始于侏罗纪,但在古生代与三叠纪地层中亦曾有零星发现,如中国南部泥盆系中便曾有报道。钙质超微化石个体微小,数量极多,在1立方厘米现代大洋钙质软泥中可含多达1万亿枚的颗石,在浅海沉积中亦可达10亿枚,因此一般取样几分之一毫升即可,适用于海底钻孔和岩屑、壁心样品。加以超微化石分布广泛、演化迅速,是深海钻探和海上石油勘探中生物地层工作的主要依据之一。钙质超微化石对温度反应灵敏。因而可以按属种分布作古温度定性定量分析,还可以用钙质超微化石的氧同位素δ18O测定古温度。
