聚苯醚聚苯醚polyphenyleneoxide2,6-二甲基苯酚的聚合物。又称聚苯撑氧。英文缩写PPO。结构为玻璃化温度约210℃,熔融温度257℃,密度0.96~1.06克/厘米3。实用聚苯醚的分子量为2~5万,结晶度约50%。最突出优点是高度耐水和耐蒸汽性。在132℃的高压蒸汽容器内处理200次,抗拉和抗冲击强度没有显著变化,此外它还具有尺寸稳定性好、蠕变小、高绝缘性等特点,长期使用温度为-127~120℃,无负荷间断工作可达200℃,与一般热固性塑料水平相当。聚苯醚由2,6-二甲基苯酚在铜盐(如氯化亚铜)和胺的粘合催化剂作用下,在空气或纯氧中进行氧化偶合聚合而成。聚苯醚易于加工成型,挤出、注射和模压均可。用于制造医疗器械代替不锈钢,能承受蒸汽消毒,也用于机械和电子零部件、绝缘材料等。聚苯醚与聚苯乙烯共混改性物在美国商品名Noryl,并可加20%~30%玻璃纤维、碳纤维等增强,是一种性能优良的工程塑料和绝缘材料。
