帕雷托，V. 帕雷托的社会学思想主要来源于意大利传统的N.马基雅维里的社会理论和19世纪A.孔德、H.斯宾塞等人的实证主义社会学思想。他的社会学思想主要有 3方面的内容:①行动理论。主要涉及人的行动的非逻辑方面。他认为，人的大量行动并不是真正基于手段-目的理性模式，而是对人的情感或心理状态的一种反映。人们总是有把自身的行动用各种类型的意识形态逻辑化、理性化的倾向，从而掩盖了人的行动的真实方面──它的非逻辑性和非科学性。社会学的主要任务之一是把行动的非逻辑性方面揭示出来。②精英理论。主要讨论社会分层和社会统治问题。帕雷托认为，在一个社会中，人的能力即体力、智力和道德是不相等的，具有最高能力的人们构成了社会精英。社会精英有政治精英和经济精英两种类型。③社会系统理论。主要是研究社会的动态均衡问题。帕雷托认为,任何社会系统主要有4个方面的特征：经济生产力的水平、政治权力的分布状态、意识形态的性质、不平等的模式。如果社会系统的某一方面特征的变化是充分的，整个社会系统就将相应地发生变化，以达到一种新的均衡；如果社会系统的某一方面变化不充分，它就要受到来自社会系统其他方面的压力，使社会系统维持原来的均衡状态。 帕雷托全部社会学分析的理论前提，是他对残余物和衍生物的区分。他认为，残余物是指从社会活动中除去人们所有的理性想法之后，依然保留下来的那种东西，它是社会活动的常数；衍生物则表示观念、信仰、理论等意识形态系统,它们是派生的,是社会活动的变数。人们对非逻辑行动的逻辑化就产生出了许多衍生物。帕雷托认为，人的非逻辑行动、社会精英的不同类型、社会系统的不同特征，都在一定程度上表现了人所具有的不同类型的残余物。 帕雷托的社会学思想对美国社会学家T.帕森斯产生了重要影响，并成为20世纪50年代西方社会学中占主导地位的结构功能主义的理论来源之一。
