浮力  全部或部分浸入流体的物体所受流体给它的垂直向上的作用力,其大小等于该物体所排开流体的重量(见阿基米德原理)。当物体所受的浮力与物体的重量相等时,物体就浮在水面上或没入水中而不下沉。人们应用这一原理建造了能在水里和空气中航行的工具,如轮船和飞艇。    浮力的作用线通过被排开流体体积的形心,形心也称浮力中心(简称浮心)。浮体一般受到两个作用力,一是重力,其作用点即为重心,另一作用力是浮力,其作用点是浮心。当浮体平衡时,其重心和浮心在同一条垂线上。当浮体倾斜时,浮心移到被排开流体的新形心上,浮力作用线铅垂向上,它和原来的重心与浮心的联线交于一点,称为定倾中心。如果定倾中心在重心之下,测浮体会倾翻,浮体是转动不稳定的;如果定倾中心在重心之上,则浮体将转回原来平衡位置,浮体是转动稳定的。从重心到定倾中心的距离称为定倾中心高度,它是浮体稳定性的直接量度。
