书目检索服务系统 美国书目检索服务处情报技术公司经营的综合性联机情报服务系统,简称BRS系统。该系统是在纽约州立大学生物医学交流网的基础上发展起来的，创立于1976年，总部设在纽约附近的莱瑟姆。到1988年底,BRS中央计算机存储有各个数据库生产者提供的150 多个数据库，共8000多万件记录，包括期刊论文、专利、标准、政府报告、学位论文和产品目录等文献资料。除了学位论文数据库可上溯到1861年的论文外，大都是60～70年代的资料，世界各地用户通过通信网络，使用兼容的终端机或微机，可以从数据库中检索到有关医药保健、生物科学、工程技术、商业经济、社会科学和人文科学等领域的当前和历史的情报。BRS 系统的数据库中有些和其他联机系统的数据库相同，也有些是BRS独家经营的,其中产品和标准情报颇具特色。BRS 早先运营的书目型数据库仅提供文献题录(篇名、著作、出处等)和摘要。现在，数值型和全文数据库日渐增多。 BRS 的基本功能同其他联机系统相似，一般用单词或词组作检索词，用"与"、"或"、"非"标准逻辑算符和位置算符把多个检索词加以组配，按规定的格式输入，系统立即显示命中的记录数，输入显示或打印指令即可获得输出的情报(即检索结果)。输入脱机打印指令，系统在夜间用激光打印机打印，第二天寄出。为适应联机情报市场的需要,BRS不断扩充功能，增加以下服务项目：① 定题服务(SDI)，用户只需一次输入检索式，数据库每次更新时便自动执行,把最新信息检索出来,邮寄给用户。②黄昏后服务(BRS/After Dark)，有30个数据库，用户可在下午6时至午夜使用,收费低廉。③脱机检索，在BRS大型数据库中,用户将联机检索策略暂存在系统中，利用晚上时间进行检索、输出处理，第二天寄出打印件，这样可以节省时间和费用。④提供两种检索技术方式。一种是指令操作方式，适于经过培训有经验的用户使用；另一种是菜单驱动方式，适合于没有经验的用户使用。两种方式可灵活使用。⑤综合和分类。将由不同数据库检得的结果,合并到同一输出文件中,按照著者名或年代顺序打印输出。⑥私人数据库服务。为用户提供设计知识，建立专用联机数据库。提供计算机软件。还计划增加电子邮政和家庭购物服务等。
