科学论文作者分布定律　　科学论文作者频率与所写论文篇数间数量关系的定律。若f(x)为作者频率(即写x篇论文的作者占作者总数的比例)，则　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　式中c为常数，约为60.79％，即写一篇论文的作者,约占作者总数的 60.79％。1926年，A.J.洛特卡发表论文《科学生产率的频率分布》,文中提出了这一定律,故又称洛特卡定律。　　洛特卡考察物理、化学两学科作者频率与所发表的论文数量间的关系,并以对数坐标画出作者频率logf (x)和论文数logx的关系，得到二者基本上呈直线关系,见附图，并用最小二乘法计算该直线的斜率近似为2,从而得到科学生产率的倒数平方定律。　　　　　　D.J.de S.普赖斯从这一定律出发导出下述推论，即科学家的总数趋近为杰出科学家数量的平方或科学论文的一半是由科学作者总数的平方根数量的作者所写的。根据这一定律推断，按论文数量多少确定的杰出作者数量与所有作者数量的比率R可以通过下式估算。　　　　　　　　　　　　式中 nmax是杰出作者群中最高产的作者所写的论文数量，按上式估算的比率是概略性的。　　　　为合理评价洛特卡定律对其他学科的适用性， F.J.科尔于1977年提出用柯尔莫戈洛夫-斯米尔诺夫(Kolmo-gorov-Smirnov)法进行检验，并对美国伊利诺伊大学图书馆和美国国会图书馆的书目文献和作者进行统计鉴定，前者符合洛特卡n=2的期望值，而后者则偏离n=2的期望值。　　　　洛特卡定律主要是用以预测特定学科的论文的作者数量和文献数量，掌握文献的增长趋势和交流规律，以利文献情报的科学管理和情报学的理论研究；亦可用以研究科学家的活动规律，研究人才的著述特征，以利科学学的理论研究和科技史的探讨。　　　　洛特卡定律只是对物理、化学两学科领域抽样而导出的理论估计，而并非精确的统计分布。该定律的局限还在于，对所研究的学科必须相对稳定，研究的论文时间区间必须足够长，研究的作者数目必须足够大，否则对该定律必须作相应的修正。
