《图书馆学和情报学百科全书》 图书馆学和情报学领域第一套比较完备的权威性的多卷本专业百科全书。美国匹兹堡大学图书馆学情报学研究院和知识利用系统中心主持编纂，A.肯特、H.兰库尔和J.E.戴利为责任编辑。受来自 9个国家的30多名专家组成的顾问委员会指导，撰稿人多为美、英、法、德等国的图书馆学家和情报学家,著名的有J.H.谢拉、F.W.兰开斯特等。由纽约德克尔公司于1968～1983年间陆续出版,共35卷，其中1～33卷为正编,按条目字顺编排,第34、35卷为主题和人名索引。收录世界各国的图书馆、情报、档案和出版事业 (如各类型图书馆与情报机构、学术团体、学校、出版物和名人传记等) 以及上述领域的理论、方法、技术、设备等。全书有1500多个条目(包括参见条目)，大多数条目篇幅较长,可独立成篇。许多条目释文中有相关参见。正式条目都附有参考书目，一些重要条目或长条目兼有引用书目和推荐书目。由于出版时间延续过长,早期各卷的一些资料已经过时。 因此,自1983年起陆续出版补编(至1991年已出版至第46卷)，增设了许多新条目，如"不列颠图书馆"、"北京图书馆"、"联机图书馆中心"、"世界书目控制计划"等。(见彩图)
