地基地基foundationsoil支承由基础传递的上部结构荷载的土体(或岩体)。为了使建筑物安全、正常地使用而不遭到破坏,要求地基在荷载作用下不能产生破坏;组成地基的土层因膨胀收缩、压缩、冻胀、湿陷等原因产生的变形不能过大。在进行地基设计时,要考虑:①基础底面的单位面积压力小于地基的容许承载力。②建筑物的沉降值小于容许变形值。③地基无滑动的危险。由于建筑物的大小不同,对地基的强弱程度的要求也不同,地基设计必须从实际情况出发考虑三个方面的要求。有时只需考虑其中的一个方面,有时则需考虑其中的两个或三个方面。若上述要求达不到时,就要对基础设计方案作相应的修改或进行地基处理(对地基内的土层采取物理或化学的技术处理,如表面夯实、土桩挤密、振冲、预压、化学加固和就地拌和桩等方法),以改善其工程性质,达到建筑物对地基设计的要求。
