赫西奥德 公元前8世纪末至7世纪初的古希腊诗人。自称祖籍小亚细亚的库墨，后移居比奥细亚境内赫利孔山麓的小村阿斯克拉。父亲死后,弟弟佩尔塞斯与他争夺遗产,兄弟不和。这就是他创作长诗《工作与时日》的起因。古代还传说他曾与荷马进行诗歌比赛，后遭横死。但一般认为他较荷马为晚。 《工作与时日》共 828行，用六音步诗行写成。他以对他弟弟的劝诫为由，宣传每人都应努力劳动，恪守正义，并用普罗米修斯胆大妄为而受惩罚和人类 5个时代更迭的传说证明他的论点，然后详细叙述一年四季的田功农时，最后以历数每个月的吉日和凶日结束。这首诗反映了受氏族贵族压迫的农村平民的意识，并对自然景色作了出色的描写。 相传为他所写的另一首长诗《神谱》收集了很多古代传说，试图依据对宇宙的一定认识将诸神的相互关系系统化。诗中说，先有卡奥斯（混沌），接着出现了盖亚(大地)，盖亚所生的乌拉诺斯是统治世界的第一个天神;克罗诺斯把他阉割了,取代他的统治；最后宙斯又推翻克罗诺斯，成为众神的主宰。此外还有《盾》、《列女传》（仅存残诗）等也曾被认为是他的作品。
