译著 从一种语言的作品翻译成另一种语言的作品的工作，由于语言结构的不同，在翻译过程中，近乎再创作，故称译著。在中国通常指把某种外语或中国少数民族语言的作品翻译成汉语作品。人类文化的交流很早便产生了翻译。中国翻译印度的佛经有近两千年的历史。大量翻译的佛经成为中国文化宝库的一个重要组成部分。在西方，罗马就是通过翻译接受希腊文化的。西方古典文化通过翻译传入阿拉伯之后，又从阿拉伯重新传入欧洲其他国家。中国近代，译著在介绍外国先进思想，促进学术发展方面起了很大作用。中华人民共和国成立后，翻译书籍的质量和数量都达到空前的高度，许多外国古典著作和各学科的代表著作都得到比较系统的介绍，使不能直接阅读原书的读者单是从译本也可以取得某一学科的基本知识。译者不但对所译书籍的专业要有较高的素养，还要有相当高的外文理解力和中文的表达力。译著的情况，也是多种多样的。有以集体的力量合译的，如《马克思恩格斯全集》和《列宁全集》；有个人独力承担或几个人分担翻译的,如外国一些著名作家的选集。从翻译的语种来说，中华人民共和国成立前只限于英、日、法等几种常见的语种，小语种、稀有语种、古典语的作品多转译自常见的语种；中华人民共和国成立后，翻译的语种扩大，希腊、拉丁、阿拉伯、西班牙、意大利等语的作品都有了直接的译本。古典学术名著或文学名著往往有几种风格迥异的译本。许多外国的辞书也有了译本。根据读者的需要，译著还分全译本和节译本，为了外语学习者的方便和某种专业者的特殊用途，还出版中外文对照本。各出版机构在计划、出版翻译作品方面,在组织、培养翻译力量方面均起有重要作用。翻译作品在中国各主要出版社(专门出版中国古籍的出版社除外)每年的出版物中占有相当的比重，中国许多著名学者对翻译工作作出了重要贡献。
