大裂谷 由一系列断层围限成的长形的断陷谷地。大裂谷宽多在30~75公里之间,长几百公里到几千公里。东非大裂谷是世界上最长的裂谷系,东支南起希雷河河口,经马拉维湖向北纵贯东非高原和埃塞俄比亚高原中部,沿红海往北延伸到西亚约旦谷地,全长6400多公里;西支南起马拉维湖西北端,经坦噶尼喀湖、基伍湖、阿明湖、蒙博托湖至尼罗河河谷,长约1700公里。苏联贝加尔湖是所有大裂谷中最深的湖泊,最大水深达1600多米。中国山西地堑系可能是大裂谷发育的初期阶段。 地貌特征 ①裂谷长度超过宽度,许多断陷盆地呈规则的雁列式分布,横剖面不对称。②裂谷内有火山分布。③裂谷两侧山地常有夷平面残留。④裂谷中沉积物厚度大,平均1.5~2.5公里,最厚可达7~8公里(南贝加尔盆地)。沉积物颗粒的粒径自下而上逐渐变粗;横向上从裂谷边缘的山麓碎屑沉积相向裂谷中部变为细粒湖相或沼泽相沉积;沉积物中常夹有火山岩沉积。⑤裂谷中现代地壳运动非常活跃,最大沉陷速度可达60~100毫米/年(加利利湖区);水平运动也明显,埃塞俄比亚裂谷的拉张量为3~8毫米/年;裂谷的热流值一般为2.0微卡/(秒·厘米2),比全球平均热流值1.5微卡/(秒·厘米2)要高;裂谷的地壳厚度为20~30公里,比大陆地壳平均厚度(40公里)要薄;重力大多为负异常;地震较多,并沿一定方向分布,震源深度多在30公里以内。 成因 由于炽热地幔的上升作用,在地幔对流上升的地方上拱呈穹隆状外形,引起区域性拉张,此处岩石(层)不断变薄,最终导致穹隆轴部破裂而下陷,形成裂谷。裂谷在形成过程中有迁移扩展现象,如贝加尔裂谷带先在南贝加尔盆地形成,然后往东北方向和西南方向扩展,一直到第四纪中期为止。据裂谷中沉积物的粒度可把裂谷作用分为两个阶段:①盆地初始形成阶段,原经长期夷平、起伏很小的地面古风化壳被剥蚀沉积于盆地中,它们都是细粒沉积物;②盆地大幅度下降阶段,地形高差增大,盆地两侧山地侵蚀作用加强,裂谷内堆积粗粒沉积物。
