治疗 为解除病痛所进行的活动。随着科学技术的进步与对生命及疾病本质认识的深入，19世纪以来医学所掌握的治疗手段有了巨大的进步。古代医学中的药物治疗与手法治疗现在已经形成了两个十分庞大的学科群，即内科学作为基础的药物治疗为主的学科群，与外科学作为基础的手术治疗学科群，此外，还出现了物理治疗、放射治疗、核医学、心理治疗、体育治疗、生物反馈，器官移植、医学工程等新的治疗手段。新的疗法还在不断涌现。但就其临床选用各种疗法的目的而言，不外乎三种情况： ①消除病因。对因治疗又称特效疗法、即治疗目的是消除病因，常可达到根治的目的，被视为较理想的治疗（如用氯霉素治疗伤寒病人和手术矫正畸形等）。 ②对症治疗。治疗的目的不在于消除病因，而在于解除某些症状，或称姑息疗法。应当说，许多疾病在病因未被认识时，所采取的治疗措施都属于对症治疗的范围，如古代医学所采用的导泻、止痛药物及拔火罐、按摩手法治疗等。在现代医学中，虽然有时病因不明或虽已知,但无法消除，或症状本身构成对生命的威胁时,对症治疗就是必要的正确的选择。前者如肿瘤的切除，后者如休克的纠正、器官移植等。 ③支持治疗。即治疗的目的既不是消除病因，也不针对某些症状，而是为了改善病人的一般情况，如营养、精神状态等。严格地说，一切治疗都必须以支持治疗为基础,这点容易被医务人员忽略,特别是在精神上对病人的支持。当病人的一般情况不允许接受其他治疗时，支持疗法就具有主要的意义。有时改善病人的一般情况本身就具有治疗意义，如营养不良患者的一些合并症，在改善营养状况后，往往可以自愈。 在实际工作中这三种治疗需要结合具体情况灵活选用或联合运用，因病、因人、因时、因地制宜，为病人谋取最大的利益，是一个很严肃任务，有时还是很复杂的思维过程。治疗效果也是一个临床医生水平高低的主要的标志。
