城市郊区 城市市区以外、市行政管辖范围以内的地区。根据同市区的距离，又可分为近郊区和远郊区。中国对市与郊的明确划分有悠久的历史。据《周礼·地官·载师》记载，周朝时就规定"邑外为郊"；离城五十里，"以宅田、士田、贾田,任近郊之地"；离城百里,"以官田、牛田、赏田、牧田，任远郊之地"。这是中国古代最早的有关市区和郊区、近郊和远郊的划分原则。中国现在对城市郊区的面积大小和近郊、远郊的划分，是根据每个城市的历史、地理、社会、经济等条件确定的，在不同城市之间存在着较大的差别。例如，市区和郊区（包括近郊和远郊的市属县）面积之比，上海为1∶26；天津为1∶72；锦州为1∶508。截至1985年底，中国已有144个城市扩大了行政辖区范围，由市领导辖区内的县。这类市属县的数目占全国县级行政单位总数的31.8％。其中有些市属县距离市区（中心城市）较远，与市区联系不甚密切，不具有城市郊区的性质。 郊区是城市的组成部分。它与城市在功能、经济、建设、环境等方面有密切的联系。例如，城市的蔬菜、肉、禽、蛋、奶等的生产基地，水源地、污水处理厂、垃圾处理厂、铁路列车编组站、港口码头、航空港、高压变电站、高压线走廊、大型储备仓库，以及不宜布置在市区的危险品仓库、传染病医院、休养院和疗养院等都要布置在郊区。 城市发展的初期，较多地采取由市区向四周郊区扩展的方式。但是，现代大城市市区的发展，很多是在郊区建设卫星城镇或工业城镇，形成一个多层次、多中心的城镇体系。因此，大城市的郊区，往往成为城市重新分布人口和生产力的地区。 到80年代初为止，中国城市郊区的产业结构基本上以农业为主，随着经济的发展，这种状况正在发生变化。中国一部分经济较发达地区的大城市的郊区，已出现了工业化和城市化的进程。 世界上经济发达国家，由于汽车的普及，郊区高速公路和其他快速交通的发展，为市区人口移居郊区提供了条件。加上郊区环境质量较好，50年代以来，美国和西欧一些国家有大量市区人口迁移到郊区。一些大城市出现了市中心区衰落，郊区城市化的现象。 城市的郊区规划是城市总体规划的组成部分。多数大城市的人口和生产力布局、城镇的空间布局结构体系都要在郊区规划中得到体现。为市区服务的各项设施和为郊区自身服务的各种设施，如郊区公路、农村居民点、乡镇企业等要列入规划。郊区的风景旅游地区、历史文物、水源、森林等要注意保护。防止郊区工业及其他设施污染环境。
