苎麻苎麻Boehmerianivea；ramie荨麻科苎麻属多年生宿根性草本。重要的纤维作物，其茎内的韧皮纤维可用作纺织原料。苎麻原产于中国。在浙江省湖州钱山漾距今4700多年的新石器时代遗址中，发现了有用苎麻纤维织成的平纹布。18世纪中国苎麻原料和纺织品开始输入欧美各国。现在世界上自南纬25°到北纬38°都有苎麻栽培，以亚热带和热带地区为多。中国的苎麻主要产区在湖南、湖北和四川，安徽、江西、广西、贵州和台湾等省（自治区）次之，其他地区亦有少量栽培。中国普遍栽培的苎麻为白叶种。绿叶种苎麻仅在海南和云南等热带气候地区有少量分布。根据根系入土深浅和地上部生长状态，苎麻品种可分为深根丛生型、浅根散生型和中间型3类。苎麻根系发达，有粗大的贮藏根和细根。地下茎（俗称种根）不断分枝。各分枝的顶芽萌发出土，成为地上茎。叶心脏形或椭圆形，有尾状尖端。白叶种叶背有银白色交织的茸毛，叶缘有锯齿。花单性，雌雄同株，圆锥状花序腋生，雌花序生在茎上部，红色或黄色，雄花序位于下方，黄绿色。瘦果小。种子纺锤形，褐色。苎麻以营养繁殖为主。方法以分蔸法较常用，即在早春出苗前掘出地下茎，切成6～15厘米带芽的小段或小块，直接栽植于大田中。如果采用细切种根的方法繁殖，要先育苗再移栽。分株法系在春季萌芽后掘取带根的小麻株，直接移栽于大田。此外，也可用压条或扦插法繁殖。中国苎麻的主要病害有根腐线虫病、白纹羽病、炭疽病等。根腐线虫侵染地下茎和根时，出现黑褐色小斑，以后扩展，引起腐烂，并使植株生长矮小，叶变黄。白纹羽病菌导致地下茎和根腐败，植株生长衰弱。炭疽病为害叶和地上茎，产生圆形或纺锤形病斑，后期使纤维产生红色斑点。主要害虫有苎麻夜蛾、天牛、金龟子、黄蛱蝶、赤蛱蝶等。均可用药剂防治。苎麻形态图苎麻的单纤维长60～250毫米，是植物纤维中最长的。表面光滑，有纵横条纹，无捻曲。单纤维强力大，浸湿后更大。细度一般为1300～2000公支（米／克）。适于纺制夏令衣料布，如纯麻夏布或麻涤、麻毛、麻丝混纺品。制成的衣服凉爽、易洗、快干。也可用以织制帆布、刺绣抽纱用布、家具装饰织物，以及渔网、水龙带、皮尺和麻线等。苎麻叶和嫩梢含较多蛋白质及钙、磷、维生素A，可作牲畜饲料。根可供药用，有止血、安胎、清热解毒功效。
