三氯化铝  AlCl3  由铝土矿化学加工或以金属铝氯化而制得的一种重要的无机盐。工业上三氯化铝有固体的无水物和六水物以及液体的三氯化铝产品。无水物为六方晶系的白色固体,工业品由于含有游离的氯、铁或痕量的有机物等杂质,常呈淡黄色、灰色或橘黄色。在湿空气中吸水释放出氯化氢,与水剧烈反应放出大量热,溶于多种有机溶剂,微溶于四氯化碳、三氯甲烷。六水物为微黄色至无色、有潮解性,水溶液呈酸性。    工业上生产无水三氯化铝采用氯化法加工,以铝土矿为原料时,将高质煤粉与铝土矿混合成型后再进行高温氯化(见铝土矿化学加工)。以金属铝为原料时,可直接氯化。将氯气通入铝锭熔融池内,生成气体氯化铝在接收器中冷凝即得产品。该法设备简单、流程短、产品质量好。但以金属铝为原料,成本高,通常生产规模较小。六水三氯化铝是用热盐酸分解铝土矿制取的。    无水三氯化铝是有机合成反应中不可缺少的催化剂及石油炼制催化剂。还可用于农药、医药、染料、颜料、香料等工业中。六水氯化铝用作含油污水的分离剂、木材防腐剂、水的消毒剂及制聚氯化铝絮凝剂的原料。
