岩心  油、气田勘探和开发过程中,按地质设计的地层层位和深度,向井内下入取心工具,钻取出的岩石样品,是了解地下油层及所含流体特征最直观、最实际的资料。有井壁取心和钻井取心两种方式,通常以后者为主。在油田范围内必须选择适量的井,对有关油、气层位,钻取一定数量的岩心,通过观察、分析和研究,可以了解:①地层的时代、岩性、沉积特征;②储层的物理、化学性质和含油、气、水状况;③生油层特征和生油指标;④地下构造情况(如断层、节理、倾角等);⑤各种测井方法定性、定量解释的基础数据;⑥开采过程中油、气、水运动和分布状况,以及地层结构的变化;岩心还可供注水或各种提高采收率方法和增产、增注措施的室内实验分析,是估算石油储量、编制合理开发方案、提高油藏注水开发效果和采收率的必不可少的基础资料。    为取得束缚水饱和度,从而求准原始含油饱和度,多使用油基泥浆取岩心(见钻井流体)。为检查开采后变化了的油、水饱和度。中国广泛应用密闭液保护岩心的密闭取心工艺。美国近年来发展了保持压力取心,使取出的岩心既不受泥浆影响,又能保持地层压力条件下的流体饱和度。但此法工艺复杂,成本高。岩心是一项非常重要的地质档案资料,应有专门设施长期保存,以供经常研究。
