耀斑耀斑solarflares在太阳大气(很可能在色球-日冕过渡层)中非常集中的能量突然释放以及而后物质运动和温度逐渐衰减的过程。倾向认为它是色球-日冕不稳定性的次级效应。耀斑常出现在磁场梯度大、结构复杂及具有高应力和不稳定磁场位形的活动区中。存在这些条件的标志有:出现反常极性的双极场;老活动区中或其附近长出新的磁场;Ha谱斑大且亮;代表磁场中性线的暗条走向曲折及暗条突然膨胀或消失等等。有时在同一个活动区可能发生几次耀斑。一般把增亮面积超过3亿平方千米的称为耀斑,而面积小于3亿平方千米的则叫亚耀斑。与耀斑有关的光学现象有:耀斑前暗条激活、冲浪、喷焰、爆发日珥和环状日珥等。与耀斑共生或由耀斑引起的现象包括太阳紫外线、软X射线、硬X射线、γ射线和射电波段的爆发;各种高能粒子(质子、电子、中子)辐射的突然增强;磁暴、突然电离层扰动、极光、极冠吸收等地球物理效应。
