射电星系射电星系radiogalaxy探测到射电辐射的星系。一般的星系都有射电辐射。通常系指发出强烈的射电辐射(比一般的星系强102~106倍)的星系。射电星系的射电连续谱一般为幂律谱,且有偏振,谱指数平均为0.75。射电辐射具有非热性质,起源于相对论性电子在磁场中运动时产生的同步加速辐射。有些射电星系的射电辐射流量和偏振常有变化。射电星系的射电形态多种多样,可分为致密型、核晕型、双瓣型、头尾型和包含多个子源的复杂性。射电星系大多为椭圆星系、巨椭圆星系和超巨椭圆星系。射电星系的光谱很像塞佛特星系,多数类似于Ⅱ型塞佛特星系,少数类似于Ⅰ型塞佛特星系。不过,塞佛特星系却是旋涡星系。射电星系同其他也发出强烈射电辐射的星系,如类星体、N型星系、塞佛特星系、蝎虎座BL型天体等的关系,尚有待研究。有些射电星系还发出强烈的红外辐射和X射线。半人马座A射电星系(NGC5128)
