类新星 类似新星的爆发变星。爆发的次数比较频繁，数年爆发一次。光变幅比新星和再发新星小，周期性不强。最突出的特点是光谱特殊。 一部分类新星变星是爆发后的老新星，它们不时地爆发，抛射物质，形成气壳。例如,天鹅座P是1600年爆发的新星，近四百年来，星周形成二、三层气壳，是处在短暂的、极不稳定的演化阶段的超巨星。人马座BS是1917年爆发的新星,爆发后激变活动不止,光谱特殊。另一部分类新星变星具有共生光谱，也称为共生星，既有冷星的吸收特征，又有热星的连续发射，还有气壳的高激发发射线。已知的类新星变星虽然只有几十个，但彼此差异很大。尽管类新星具有类似新星的激变这种共性，但它们的本原可能大不相同。二十世纪七十年代以来，有人划分出五个类新星次群：①仙女座Z型星:由沉陷在激发态星云中的晚型巨星和热蓝星组成的双星系统。光谱特征是低温吸收线和高温发射线同时并存。前者如TiO、CaⅠ、CaⅡ,后者如HeⅡ，OⅢ以及元素的更高次电离谱线。这种星具有半周期性的爆发,变幅可达3个星等。绝对星等约为-3～-4。集聚在银道面附近，没有向银心聚集的趋势，可能属老年盘星族。已经发现20多对。②剑鱼座S型星:光变极不规则的高光度星。光谱型为Bpeq～Fpeq，是银河系中最亮的星中的一部分。已经发现约10颗。③仙后座γ 型星：光变不规则的气壳星。光谱型为BeⅢ～BeV。通常是快速自转星,光变往往与赤道带的气壳抛射过程有关。已经发现40多颗。④鲸鱼座ZZ型星：短周期光变的白矮星，可能是老新星，有以分钟计的快速变光，通常有几个光变周期迭加在光变曲线上。仅发现数颗。⑤武仙座AM型星：强磁性白矮星和红矮星组成的密近双星系统，有气盘和强X射线辐射。光谱特征是H、He发射线迭加在蓝连续区上。已发现约10对。此外，不同学者对类新星还有不同的定义和划分方法。
