瞿昙【瞿昙】 （杂名）Gautama，旧称瞿昙，俱谭具谭等。新称乔答摩。释种之姓，古来佛姓，称瞿昙甘蔗，日种，释迦，舍夷之五种。论其异同有诸说。十二游经举瞿昙与舍夷二名之因缘，梵志瞿昙之弟子曰瞿昙，世人称为小瞿昙。为贼所杀（在甘蔗园或甘蔗果园），师知之以尸和泥为两团，咒十月，成一男一女，以瞿昙为姓，又名舍夷。佛本行集经谓净饭六代之祖被射杀，从血块生二茎之甘蔗，次生一男一女，姓为甘蔗，别称为日种，四子移于北，倡释迦姓，其别称日舍夷，佛为甘蔗王I^ks!vaku之末，瞿昙乃姓。日种Suryavamsa中之释迦族S/akya，故有此称。舍夷宜为Saki（释迦之女性名词），又瞿昙之意味，天台以为纯淑。见文句一下。慧苑以为最胜。慈恩以为日炙种，泥土种（二十唯识述记下同上）。法华玄赞九曰：“若毁之曰泥土种牛粪种。”此以Gautama，误为Gomati之名也。
