文化区域 文化人类学和社会学描述文化分布的概念之一。指一种文化模式所占有的整个空间。在社会学中有时和文化区混用，但二者所反映的地理空间有很大的差别。文化区是指一个大社区中的小社区，如一座城市中的若干社区。文化区域是指一种文化模式所占有的更大的区域。北美文化人类学家在研究北美洲部落文化时，根据几百个部落文化和居住地域的不同，把美国和加拿大划分为9个文化区域:平原区、高原区、加利福尼亚区、北太平洋海岸区、爱斯基摩区、麦肯齐区、东部森林区、东南区和西南区。这 9个区的居民来源及形成发展的历史背景不同，各有自己特殊的文化。这些文化区域是综合了影响文化的地理环境、生物环境和历史背景 3个要素而划分的。一个文化区域有自己特殊的自然地理环境，特殊素质的人口和特殊的形成与发展过程，因此形成地域性的特殊文化。当代社会学使用文化区域一词，一般是用以描述现代国家的文化在地理上的分布状况。 对文化进行分区研究，有助于认识各地区的社会经济发展的特殊性和各地区之间的文化联系，以利于规划和指导各地区的发展。
