狄尔斯，O.P.H. 联邦德国有机化学家。1876年 1月23日生于汉堡，1954年3月7日卒于基尔。1895年入柏林大学攻读化学，1899年在E.费歇尔指导下获博士学位。1906年任柏林大学化学教授。1916年起，任基尔克里斯琴·奥尔布雷克特大学教授，兼化学研究所所长，1926年任该校校长。1948年退休。 狄尔斯长期从事天然有机化合物，特别是甾族化合物的研究。1906年开始研究胆甾醇的结构，从胆结石中分离出纯的胆固醇，并通过氧化作用将它转变成"狄尔斯酸"。1927年他用硒在300℃使胆甾醇脱氢,得到一种被称为"狄尔斯烃"(C18H16)的芳香族化合物。这对胆甾醇、胆酸皂苷、强心苷等结构的确定起了重要的作用。1928年他和助手K.阿尔德发明双烯合成，其原理为：如果具有两个共轭双键的分子（双烯）和具有一个双键的分子（亲双烯试剂）在结构上满足一定的要求时，两者即很容易发生反应而结合成一个含有 6元环的产物。这个反应的应用范围和格利雅反应一样广泛，被称为狄尔斯-阿尔德反应。狄尔斯和阿尔德在1928年首先明确地解释这个合成反应的过程，并同时强调指出了他们的发现有广泛的使用价值。狄尔斯因与阿尔德共同发展了双烯合成法而共获1950年诺贝尔化学奖。他著有《有机化学导论》(1907)一书。
