林纾林纾(1852～1924)中国近代文学家，翻译家。原名群玉，字琴南，号畏庐，别署冷红生，晚称蠡叟、补柳翁、践卓翁、长安卖画翁。福建闽县(今福州市)人。光绪八年(1882)举人。1900年任北京五城中学国文教员，后任北京大学讲席。辛亥革命后，入北洋军人徐树铮所办正志学校教学，其后专以译书售稿与卖文卖画为生。林纾博学强记，能诗能文兼能绘画。政治上主张维新，忠于清光绪帝。辛亥革命后，由思想保守转向反对五四新文化运动。他标榜桐城派古文，其古文创作善于叙事抒情，生动感人，为桐城派大师吴汝纶所推重。其诗学唐宋诸家，亦有成就。林纾的文学成就主要在于他的“林译小说”，其译著影响远远超过其诗文和画。他翻译小说始于光绪二十三年（1897），与精通法文的王寿昌合译法国小仲马《巴黎茶花女遗事》，2年后在福州由畏庐刊行。这是第一部中国翻译的西洋小说，一时风行全国。接着他受商务印书馆的邀请专译欧美小说，先后共译作品180余种，广泛介绍了美国、英国、法国、俄国、希腊、德国、日本、比利时、瑞士、挪威、西班牙等国的作品，其中许多是世界文学名著。林纾的译笔小说一般轻快明爽，颇能保持原文情调，小说人物也能传原著之神。林纾译书速度之快是空前的。他不懂外文，他的翻译是通过与人合作完成的，别人口译，他来笔录。往往口述者未毕其词，他已书写在纸，他是古文家，喜用古文义法讲他所译小说。林译小说在中国近代史上有着积极影响，促进了文化引进和交流，为中国文学的发展提供了借鉴。他的一些成功译作在今天仍然还具有生命力。林纾的翻译生涯近30年，后期译笔逐渐退色。林纾译《巴黎茶花女遗事》扉页林纾除翻译小说外，还有许多创作成果：文有《畏庐文集》、《续集》、《三集》等，诗有《畏庐诗存》、《闽中新乐府》，自著小说有《京华碧血录》、《巾帼阳秋》、《冤海灵光》、《金陵秋》等，笔记有《畏庐漫录》、《畏庐笔记》、《畏庐琐记》等，传奇有《蜀鹃啼》、《合浦珠》、《天妃庙》等。还有古文研究著作《韩柳文研究法》、《春觉斋论文》、《左孟庄骚精华录》、《左传撷华》等。
