黄继光(1931～1952) 中国人民志愿军特级战斗英雄，通信员。四川省中江县人。1949年11月家乡解放后，积极参加清匪反霸和土地改革斗争。1951年 3月参加中国人民志愿军抗美援朝作战。1952年7月加入中国新民主主义青年团。 在上甘岭战役中，他所在的营于10月19日夜奉命夺回上甘岭西侧的597.9高地。部队攻克数处阵地后，被7挺机枪的火力压制不能前进。在这关键时刻,黄继光挺身而出,带两名战友连续摧毁几个火力点，但还有一个射孔的机枪在疯狂扫射。这时,一个战友牺牲，一个战友负重伤,手雷也掷完。多处负伤的黄继光，毅然顽强地爬向火力点，用胸膛堵住机枪射孔，以自己的生命为部队夺取高地开辟了道路。根据他生前的申请，所在部队党委追认为中国共产党党员,追授"模范青年团员"称号。1953年4月8日中国人民志愿军领导机关给他追记特等功,追授"特级英雄"称号。同年 6月25日朝鲜民主主义人民共和国最高人民会议常任委员会追授"朝鲜民主主义人民共和国英雄"称号，颁发金星奖章、一级国旗勋章。他的英雄事迹广为传颂，成为人们学习的榜样，全国许多先进单位以他的名字命名。
