铀铀uranium一种化学元素。化学符号U，原子序数92，原子量238.0289，属周期系ⅢB族，为锕系元素的成员和天然放射性元素。1789年德意志M.H.克拉普罗特用硝酸处理沥青铀矿，得到铀的氧化物。1841年法国E.-M.佩利若用金属钾还原四氟化铀，制得了金属铀。铀的英文名称是为纪念1781年发现的新行星Uranus(天王星)而命名的。铀在地壳中的平均含量为(3～4)×10-4％，天然放射性同位素铀238、铀235、铀234的相对丰度（原子百分数）分别为99.275、0.720、0.005。重要的铀矿有沥青铀矿（mUO·nUO）、钾钒铀矿〔K2(UO2)2(VO4)2·1～3H2O〕、钙铀云母〔Ca(UO2)2(PO4)2·8～10H2O〕、晶质铀矿〔m（U,Th）O2·nUO3〕、黑稀金矿〔（Y，U）（Nb,Ti）2O6〕等。海水中铀的含量约为3.34微克／升。铀是银白色金属，熔点1132℃，沸点3818℃，密度19.05克／厘米3。铀的化学性质活泼，在空气中生成致密的氧化膜，防止进一步氧化。铀在空气中能自燃，在不同温度下与氢、氟、氮、碳发生反应，并能与铜、锌、汞、铝、钛、锰、铁等形成合金。铀的氧化态为＋3、＋4、＋5、＋6。氧化物有UO2、U4O9、U3O8、UO3、UO4。以铀238和铀235为始祖核素，分别组成两个天然放射性衰变系，即铀镭系和锕铀系。铀的毒性很大，中毒会引起肾脏病变。铀的提取是用硫酸或碳酸钠分解铀矿，然后用溶剂萃取法分离提纯，最后转化为四氟化铀，用金属镁或钙在高温下将四氟化铀还原为金属铀。铀主要用作核燃料，在核反应堆中释放出巨大能量，用于发电、核武器以及潜艇、远洋货轮的动力装置。少量铀用于玻璃着色和陶瓷釉料。
