折轴望远镜 光线通过光学元件沿轴射出的望远镜。这种望远镜的焦点称为折轴焦点。各种装置型式（赤道式、地平式等）的折射望远镜、反射望远镜、折反射望远镜都可以配置成折轴望远镜。以英国式装置的反射望远镜为例，它的折轴系统通常如图所示。折轴望远镜的主要特点是，当望远镜跟踪天体运动时，轴线上的星像并不随之而动，这样就可以在折轴焦点后面，安置与望远镜本体脱离的、不随望远镜运动的庞大的终端设备。在折轴望远镜的后面配置各种仪器，恰如设置了一个实验室，望远镜只是将收集到的天体的光，送入这个实验室。在大型反射望远镜的折轴焦点后面，安置的主要仪器是大型分光仪。在折轴望远镜中，星像一般是旋转的。对于赤道式装置和光束由极轴射出的折轴望远镜（例如图中所示的系统），星像将绕视场中心作与周日运动相同速度的转动。
