重正化重正化renormalization克服量子场论中的发散困难,使理论计算得以顺利进行的一种理论处理方法。重正化方法运用的成功首先是在量子电动力学问题中实现的。量子电动力学将电磁场量子化,建立起来的方程能说明电磁波是由光子组成的,且能说明光子的产生和湮没,亦能说明电子的波粒二象性及其产生和湮没。为了得到更精确的理论结果,进行高次近似计算,结果却总是一些无穷大,使得理论计算无从与实验相对比,称为发散困难。经过多年研究,认识到这些无穷大结果的物理效应表现在电子的质量和电荷上。电子的质量来源于电子固有的力学质量和电子自能贡献的电磁质量;电子的电荷来源于电子固有的电荷和由于真空极化作用所产生的附加电荷。电子自能贡献的电磁质量及真空极化作用产生的附加电荷均为无穷大。重正化方法就是用实验测得的电子质量和电子电荷代替电子的无穷大质量和无穷大电荷,高次近似计算中的无穷大便被吸收到电子质量项和电荷项之中,而成为有限的,从而可以与实验结果相比较。理论计算的电子反常磁矩和兰姆移位与实验值符合得极好。量子电动力学成为一门非常精确的理论。
