主要的矛盾方面与非主要的矛盾方面　　表征矛盾双方在矛盾统一体中不同地位和作用的哲学范畴。主要的矛盾方面是指在矛盾统一体中居于支配地位的一方；非主要的矛盾方面则指居于被支配地位的一方。　　　　唯物辩证法认为，任何现实的矛盾，双方的力量都是不平衡的，其中必有一方居于支配地位，而另一方居于被支配的地位。事物的性质主要地是由取得支配地位的主要矛盾方面决定的。但是，主要的矛盾方面对事物性质的决定作用，只有在同非主要的矛盾方面的相互关联中才能实现，不能离开这种相互关联孤立地起作用。　　　　主要的矛盾方面和非主要的矛盾方面在一定条件下可以相互转化。矛盾双方在又同一又斗争的过程中,力量的对比会逐渐变化,一方由小变大,由弱变强，另一方则与此相反。这种变化达到某个关节点时，主要的矛盾方面和非主要的矛盾方面就互相易位，一事物就转化为他事物,原来的矛盾统一体就让位于新的矛盾统一体。一般说来，在新的矛盾统一体刚刚出现以及随后的一段时间内,主要的矛盾方面是新生的、向上发展的力量;而作为未来的、更高级的新事物的代表的非主要的矛盾方面一般还是弱小的。随着矛盾双方斗争的展开，主要的矛盾方面就逐渐丧失其新生的向上的性质，变成阻碍事物发展的衰颓力量,整个事物也就丧失了存在的合理性,变成了趋于灭亡的旧事物。与此同时，代表事物新的发展方向的非主要的矛盾方面则发展壮大，最终上升为主要的矛盾方面，使旧事物转化为新事物。这就是事物前进运动的内在根据。有时，新事物中残存着的代表旧事物的矛盾方面，使新事物倒退成为旧事物。但这只是事物发展过程中暂时出现的曲折现象，它终究要被新事物所战胜。新陈代谢是事物发展的必然趋势，是宇宙间永远不可抵抗的规律。
