十二连环坞浙南凤尾帮的老巢总舵，分十二连环坞分舵、分水关和内三堂。十二连环坞巢穴极深，就是该帮的人众，不是直接在主舵效力的，也轻易进不去。凤尾帮龙头帮主天南逸叟武维扬故意使他舵下的弟兄对十二连环坞，始终存在着一种神秘感和向往，以免叛离心。凤尾帮以十二连环坞，为巢穴，水旱两面，步步设防，以守为攻，以消灭天下武林劲敌，称霸江湖。十二连环坞机要部分高在雁荡山的铁佛寺。其中，建有一石屋，内开十二个窗扇，窗前一溜长案，每一个窗扇下是一人的座位，每人所占据的案前，是一套文具。在每一个窗扇上均有奇特的装置，木窗子上有一个八寸高、一尺宽的方孔，方孔两旁，左边安着一只五寸高、四寸宽的带色的灯，是色纸糊的，有可以转动的木架托着，不用时只在方孔内，贴在方孔旁。用时一拉动，就可以推到方孔外，内里可以燃起汕灯盏；那右方则装着一排四寸大的各色旗子，也是装在一方可以转动的木架上，用法与色灯一样。靠前檐亦是十二扇窗子，通连的木案。每一窗下也是一份文具，一把椅子，文具旁有卷宗纸张。这十二个窗孔，分十二色，每个方孔、灯和旗子是一色。这便是十二连环坞的埋桩下卡子所在，是凤尾帮传递信号的一种设备，和用飞箭传书有异曲同工之妙。这里总管十二处巡江分舵的谍报，石屋中每一窗孔管着一处分舵。除色灯、色纸传信息外，还养着十二笼信鸽，全是久经训练的。那十二餐巡江分舵也同样各养着一笼信鸽，相互交流情报密令。从十二连环坞到分水关再到帮主所在总舵内三堂，都有很长一段水程，其间巧设机关，使人如入迷宫。内三堂是执掌该帮法规、总揽该帮机要的首脑总舵，分天凤堂、青鸾堂和金雕堂，除非是身负内三堂职司的，旁人全部无法入内。每年各地分舵，必要朝一次龙头总舵，大开内三堂。可是所朝总舵的不下数百人，临到龙头帮主升坛受贺时，这各分舵主朝参总舵之后，没有一个分得清主坛在什么地方，内三堂建在何处，因为各分舵只要一到浙南，便被总舵的故布疑阵迷失了方向位置。凤尾帮帮主武维扬故弄玄虚，不仅是愚弄手下兄弟，更使外人深觉玄虚，不敢贸然闯入。（见郑证因《鹰爪王》）
