管材  人类使用管材的历史很久,乌尔(Ur)遗址曾发现有残破的铅管;古代罗马的遗迹中也发现了输送饮水的铅管。但是,大量使用金属管还只是近二百年的事情。1815年在苏格兰发明了用钢管制作气灯和炮筒。1824年将加热的铁板两边弯曲对焊成管,1825年生产出炉焊管。1836年英国采用挤压法生产无缝钢管,以后,出现了铸钢管坯锻制成管和钢板冲杯成管的方法。1885年,德国曼尼斯曼兄弟用穿孔法生产无缝钢管,1890年开始用于工业生产。20世纪中叶,焊接技术发展后,电焊管在管材中所占比重日益增加。    管材广泛用于输送各种固态、液态、气态物质和能量,并用作机械和建筑用轻型结构等方面。工业发达国家目前钢管产量占钢材产量 9~16%。用于能源开发和输送的钢管数量逐年增加,对质量的要求越来越高。    金属管材按周边有无接缝分为无缝管(见无缝管生产)和焊接管(见焊接管生产)。管材规格品种繁多,圆管的规格用外径(D)和壁厚(S)表示。目前生产金属管材外径为0.1~4000mm,壁厚为0.01~200mm,除圆形以外,还有各种异形管材。(见彩图)
