寄生寄生parasitism异种生物交互作用的一种形式:交互作用的一方得益(寄生物),另一方受害(寄主或称宿主);但通常不置受害者于死地,这是与捕食现象不同之处。某些昆虫(通常为膜翅目或双翅目昆虫)将卵产于另外一种无脊椎动物体内,幼虫自卵孵出后即以寄主身体组织为食,最后导致寄主死亡。这种现象称为类寄生或拟寄生,实为捕食现象,有时亦称捕食寄生。寄生物偶尔也可置寄主于死地,但寄主的死亡对寄生物也不利。寄生现象的进化趋势是,交互作用的双方通过相互适应最后建立温和的共处关系,使寄主死亡例数减至最少。例如人类患常见的传染病时死亡率很低。建立稳定的寄生关系,要求寄生物能与寄主紧密联合,能顺利地从寄主体内吸取营养,并能抵抗寄主的免疫反应。因此在寄生物中常可见到明显的适应性特化现象。以哺乳动物肠道寄生物为例,它们常具有一层保护性外质,能抵抗肠液侵蚀;感觉器官退化,但具吸器可吸附在肠壁上,有的能进行逆流运动,因而不致被肠道运动排出体外;消化系统退化,但生殖能力高度发达,常借无性生殖方式大量繁衍。寄生现象的分类主要根据寄生物的特化程度。特化到脱离寄主便不能存活的称专性寄生物;仍有独立生活能力的称兼性寄生物。另一方面,寄生关系可以是持久的,也可以是暂时的,或只在某个发育阶段才营寄生生活。最常见的寄生物分类以寄生部位为依据。如外寄生物和内寄生物。最极端的例子是病毒和立克次氏体等,它们只能生活在细胞内。这种由外而内的寄生系列,不仅表现出寄生物和寄主在空间上结合的紧密程度,也反映了两者间的代谢依赖性。上述寄生物都由寄主取得营养,但依赖性不同。肠道寄生虫吸取寄主未消化吸收的食物残渣;而细胞内寄生物,或因本身的分解代谢机能不完备(如立克次氏体)或因根本不具备(如病毒),因而连营养的利用也要依赖寄主。寄生于寄生物身上的现象称为超寄生(或重叠寄生)。如蚤寄生于兽类身上,其肠内又有原虫寄生。
