藜科藜科Chenopodiaceae双子叶植物纲石竹亚纲的一科。多为一年生草本,少数为半灌木或灌木,稀为小乔木。单叶,互生或对生,扁平或柱状,较少退化为鳞片状(盐角草属),草质或肉质,无托叶。花单被,3~5裂,果期增大、变硬或在背部生出翅状、刺状、疣状等附属物。雄蕊与花被裂片同数或较少。子房上位;胚珠1,弯生。果实多为胞果,稀盖果(千针苋属)。胚环形、半环形或螺旋形。具肉质或粉质的外胚乳或无。该科有100余属1400余种。广布世界各大洲,主要分布于非洲南部、中亚、美洲和大洋洲的干草原、沙漠、荒漠和地中海、黑海、红海沿岸海滨地区。中国有39属180余种。全国各地均产,但主要产于盐碱地和北方各省的干旱地区,尤以新疆最盛。其中苞藜属为中国特有,产于甘肃南部。该科植物中的甜菜是制糖工业的重要原料;菠菜和厚皮菜是普遍栽培的优良蔬菜;而地肤、藜、盐地碱蓬和猪毛菜等嫩时可食;沙蓬种子俗称沙禾,可食;猪毛菜、土荆芥全草入药。后者的茎、叶含土荆芥油,为健胃、通经的药;果实挥发油中含驱蛔素(O10H16C2),为驱虫有效成分。地肤果实称地肤子,为常用中药。杖藜世界各国普遍栽培,除幼苗可食外,茎杆可做手杖,称藜杖。不少种类为干旱地区的主要饲料和固沙植物,其中小乔木状的梭梭属植物是十分重要的沙区造林树种。地肤
