河套人 中国发现的晚期智人化石之一。包括1922年发现一枚小孩上外侧门齿,1956年发现的左侧股骨的下半段和一块右侧顶骨破片,1978年和1979年发现的3件额骨,一件下颌骨残片,一件右侧股骨和一件左侧胫骨。化石产地位于鄂尔多斯高原毛乌素沙漠的东南边缘内蒙古自治区乌审旗境内的萨拉乌苏河两岸。 河套人顶骨在矢状方向上的长度、顶骨的曲度都与现代人的接近,脑膜中动脉沟的后支比前支发达,则与北京猿人接近。骨的厚度比现代人的平均值大,额骨的额鳞与眉弓之间无明显的沟相隔而是逐渐过渡,眉弓显著,眉间部明显向前凸起。 股骨壁厚,髓腔很小,是原始性质。股骨中段的横径比例与西欧尼人接近,但总的不及他们粗壮。胫骨与现代人相似。 牙齿大小与现代人的相近,门齿舌面有明显的底结节和铲形凹。 河套人具有较多的现代人的特征,但也保留一些较为原始的特征,结合地层和共生的动物考虑,河套人应在丁村人之后,而在峙峪人和山顶洞人之前,在分类上归于晚期智人。
