mp446采用枪管短后坐式工作原理,枪管偏移式闭锁机构。闭锁时,枪管尾部沿枪管下方卡铁的“<”形槽上抬,同时,卡铁前部上缘卡入抛壳窗前部下缘。mp446基本上与俄军制式mp443同型,都是击锤外露式半自动手枪,两枪的套筒尾端均无击针自动保险装置,因而击锤在待击状态下可能出现事故。为此,这两种枪在后期均将套筒左右侧面向后延长,起到保护击锤的作用。mp446与 mp443的不同之处在于套筒座与握把,mp446配装聚合物制整体式握把与套筒座,而mp443是在传统的钢制套筒座上安装塑料制握把护板。发射机构为一整体组件装入套筒座内,扳机露在组件外。扣动扳机以双动方式发射;也可用手扳动击锤待击,以单动方式发射。抽壳钩装在套筒顶部的抛壳窗后方中央,当膛内有弹时就从套筒顶部突出,夜间用手可触及,白天可看到抽壳钩突出端的左右侧有染色标记在握把上方左右两侧成对配置手动保险杆,左右手均可操作。手动保险杆推向上方位置为保险状态,不仅锁住扳机和阻铁,也锁住击锤和套筒。枪管内有6条右旋膛线。枪管后端装有卡铁,该卡铁为一独立件,便于加工。复进簧导杆与空仓挂机轴装在枪管后端的下方,空仓挂机扳把设在套筒左侧。弹匣为钢制件,有10发和17发两种容弹量。弹匣托弹板由聚合物制成。弹匣扣设在扳机护圈后部,可在枪身左右两侧更缺口式照门的前方设有较大的斜坡,装入手枪套时不会被挂住。该枪在以下几处打上铭文。套筒左侧刻有型号名称,用厂家命名的mp446 与绰号“海盗”串联表示。套筒右侧刻有生产国家与商标名称“贝加尔”。从抛壳窗处可看到枪管上的检验标记,说明该枪管已通过了俄罗斯根据国际标准新制定的耐用性试验。握把左右两侧的上方均有表示伊热梅克公司的标志。
