隐形军舰所谓隐形军舰,不是指肉眼见不到的军舰,而是指用现代化探测装置,如雷达、声纳、红外探测器等探测不到,或极难探测到的一种新型军舰。它出现于本世纪90年代的几个世界海军强国的舰队中,如美国的“海影”号、瑞典的“斯迈杰,,号、法国的“拉斐特”号军舰,都属于隐形军舰。隐形军舰的出现略迟于隐形飞机,它是将隐形飞机的隐身技术移植到军舰上的结果。隐形军舰的隐身技术与隐形飞机一样,但难度要大于飞机,因为军舰的速度慢、体积大。隐形军舰要做到隐形,最少需要做到雷达隐形与红外隐形。雷达隐形就是要让军舰不强烈反射电磁波或根本不反射电磁波,从而让雷达“致盲”,看不到军舰所在。另外,在舰体外表涂上一层能吸收电磁波的涂料也是隐形手段之一。这种涂料能够吸收雷达的电磁波,不让电磁波反射回去,或者将电磁波转化为热能消散到大气中去。通过以上两种隐形手段,军舰在雷达屏幕上变得模糊、缩小直至消失了,从而达到了雷达隐形。另外,军舰这种钢铁怪兽极容易被红外探测器探测到,因为军舰有很强的红外辐射,它的甲板吸收太阳光反射出大量的辐射热,它的烟囱、各类排气管和机器运转散发出的热量都很容易被红外探测器探测到。为了不被红外探测器探测到,就要考虑尽量少排放热量或以各种屏蔽措施予以屏蔽。现在隐形军舰上采用的“红外抑制装置”还不完善,还达不到红外隐形的目的。另外,军舰还要考虑声隐形,即不被声纳探测到,这点也是较难做到的。
