光电催化 通过选择半导体光电极(或粉末)材料和(或)改变电极的表面状态(表面处理或表面修饰催化剂)来加速光电化学反应的作用。光电化学反应是指光辐照与电解液接触的半导体表面所产生的光生电子-空穴对被半导体/电解液结的电场所分离后与溶液中离子进行的氧化还原反应。光电催化是一种特殊的多相催化。最有意义的光电催化是转换太阳能为化学能的贮能反应,如铂/钛酸锶或铂/钽酸钾催化太阳光分解水,产生氢和氧(见半导体电化学)。 半导体光电极 在将光能转换为化学能的光电化学电池中,用半导体材料作光电极,起光吸收和光催化作用。n型半导体构成光阳极,只催化氧化反应;p型半导体构成光阴极,只催化还原反应。但半导体表面一般不具有良好的反应活性,电极反应往往需较高的过电位。经过适当的表面处理(如热处理、化学刻蚀和机械研磨等)来改变电极的表面状态(如价态分布、晶格缺陷、晶粒粒度、比表面和表面态分布等),可以大大改善其催化活性。 表面修饰的半导体光电极 单纯半导体光电极一般催化活性不高,采用表面修饰方法(如沉积法、强吸附法、共价法和聚合成膜法等)将具有某些功能的物质(金属、半导体、化学基团和聚合物)附着于电极表面,使它成为表面修饰电极,就能改善和扩大电极功能。当具有催化活性的物质以高分散的岛状分布修饰在半导体电极表面并形成透光的肖特基接触时,就可能改变反应势垒,提高反应速率。例如,在半导体二氧化钛光阳极表面修饰上铂或钯,可大大提高乙醇水溶液光电催化氧化同时放氢的速率。 太阳能利用中的光电催化问题 目标是提高太阳能转换成化学能的光能转换效率,以期取得应用价值。除了光电催化水分解以制取氢燃料外,光电催化固氮成氨,固二氧化碳成有机物,光电合成化学药品和材料以及利用光电催化变废为利、保护环境等,都是有理论和实践意义的太阳光电催化的课题。普遍存在的问题是:光能转换效率低,大多在1%~3%甚至更小;催化剂活性不够高;催化剂选择性不够好,大多是系列产物分布;催化剂寿命不够长,连续使用期仅数月或数年。
