地台地台platform大陆上自形成以后未再遭受强烈褶皱的稳定地区。曾称陆台。1885年由E.修斯提出。在地槽地台学说中，地台是与地槽相对应的地壳稳定构造单元，以含有未变质的沉积盖层区别于地盾。地台具有双层结构，即由基底和盖层构成。基底由前震旦纪或前寒武纪的巨厚已变质的沉积岩系与火山岩组成，构造复杂，一般遭受过较强的区域变质作用。基底岩石建造序列属地槽型。盖层由震旦纪或寒武纪以来的沉积岩系组成，其厚度一般不超过1000～2000米，未经受区域变质作用。其沉积物组成地台型建造序列。盖层与基底以角度不整合接触。地台的主要特征有：①形态上呈等轴状，面积一般超过数十万平方千米，地貌反差小。②沉积建造多由高成熟度、分选良好的浅海或陆相地层组成，厚度不大但分布广泛，地层成席状体，对比性良好，有石英砂岩建造、粘土铁质建造、碳酸盐建造等。③岩浆活动微弱，以大面积的陆相溢流玄武岩为特征。④构造变形弱，多发育短轴背斜和盆地；⑤盛产石油、煤等能源和其他沉积矿产。地台内部按沉积盖层的发育及变形情况可划分出3种次级构造单元：台背斜，是地台上的相对隆起区，盖层厚度小；台向斜，是地台上相对坳陷区，盖层厚度大；台褶带，是地台上构造性质相对最活动的带，地层厚度大，其中并可出现线状褶皱和断裂。
