等式等式equality用等号将两个解析式连结而成的式子。例如x2-y2=(xy)(xy),2x+3=7,a2+b2=-1等。一般形式为fxy,…,z)=gxy,…,z)。等号两边的解析式的公共定义域称为等式的定义域(见函数)。如果等式两边的字母用定义域内任一组值代入后,运算结果两个解析式的值都相等,那么此等式称为恒等式。这样的等式实质上是一个命题,数学上大量的恒等式都是经过论证的真命题。如果等式两边的字母代表未知数,只当字母取某些数值时两个解析式的值才相等,这样的等式称为方程,实质上是一个问题。特殊情况是,字母取任何数值时,两边的值都不会相等,这样的等式称为矛盾等式。
