大型底栖无脊椎动物  栖息在水底或附着在水中植物和石块上的肉眼可见的水生无脊椎动物,包括很多动物门类,主要有环节动物、软体动物和节肢动物。    大型底栖无脊椎动物有的种类只生活在海洋中,如刺参(Stichopus japonicus)、海星、毛蚶[Arca(Ana-dara)subcrenata]、缢蛏(Sinonovacula constricta)、牡蛎、沙蚕(Nereis)、对虾(Penaeus orientalis)等。有的种类只生活在淡水水域里,如环棱螺(Bellamya)、蜻蜓(Anisoptera)稚虫、石蝇 (Isoperla)稚虫、水蚯蚓、河蚌等。    大型底栖无脊椎动物行动能力差,寿命比较长,形体较大,易于辨认,分布广泛。它们的种类和群落结构同周围环境质量之间的关系特别密切,可作为水污染指示生物。例如存在翅目 (Plecoptera)、毛翅目(Trichoptera)、蜉蝣目 (Ephemerida)昆虫稚虫,通常表示水体比较清洁;存在四节蜉(Baetis)稚虫等表示水体受到中度有机物污染;存在颤蚓(Tubificidae)、 食蚜蝇(Sуrhidae)幼虫等表示水体受到严重的有机物污染。柱头虫(Balanoglossussp.)、沙蚕(Nereis)等是比较耐污染的种类。    一些学者根据大型底栖无脊椎动物种类和群落结构同水质的关系提出各种水污染的生物指数和生物种的多样性指数作为评价水体质量的生物指标。
