洪堡洪堡（1769～1859）Humboldt，Alesandervon德国科学家，近代地理学创建人之一。生卒于柏林。早年在普鲁士矿产部从事植学、地质学、气象学研究1793年任高级矿务师。后从事野外考察、著书和讲学。曾考察过西欧、南北美洲、北亚和中亚等地。参与建立柏林地理学会，1828年组织了第一次国际科学会议。其科学活动涉及地理学、地质学、地球物理学、气象学和生物学等。主要贡献有：首创等温线、等压线概念，绘声绘出世界等温线图，指出气候不仅受纬度影响，而与海拔高度、离海远近、风向等因素有关；研究了气候带分布、温度垂直递减率、大陆东西岸的温度差异性、大陆性和海洋性气候、地形对气候的形成作用；发现植物分布的水平分异和垂直分异性，论述气候同植物分布的水平分异和垂直分异的关系，得出植物形态随高度而变化的结论；根据植被景观的不同，将世界分成都市16个区，确立了植物区系的概念，创建了植物地理学；首次绘制地形剖面图，进行地质、地理研究；指出火山分布与地下裂隙的关系；认识到地层愈深温度愈高的现象；发现美洲、欧洲、亚洲在地质上的相似性；根据地磁测量得出地磁强度从极地向赤道递减的规律；根据海水物理性质的研究，用图解法说明洋流；发现秘鲁寒流(又名洪堡寒流)。此外，还促进了沸点高度计的发明和山地测量学的发展。1808～1827年与邦普朗用近水楼台20年时间写成功30卷的《新大陆热带地区旅行记》，是近代地理学最为重要的著作，晚年写成《宇宙：物质世界概要》，还有《植物地理学论文集》和《中央亚细亚》等。洪堡的科学成就和著作推动了近代自然科学的发展，在世界上产生了很大影响。为纪念洪堡，德国建有洪堡基金会，资助世界各国的自然科学研究。图片
