同源域同源域(homeodomain)是在同源异形基因(homeoticgene)中已提到的由180个核苷酸编码的60个氨基酸序列，这个肽段里的氨基酸组成在进化上是保守的，从果蝇、小鼠到人很少发生改变。编码同源域的180个核苷酸通常位于基因3’端的外显子中。同源域起着转录因子的作用。果蝇中已鉴定出含同源域编码框(homeo box)的基因不少于40个，小鼠中也发现了20多个，其他如线虫、蛙和人中也都存在。研究小鼠的基因表达发现，同源框很多是分布在基因簇中的每个基因中。胚胎发育早期，一个器官的逐渐分化形成，与含同源框的基因逐个依次表达密切相关，而且这些基因表达在时间上的先后次序，又同这些基因在基因簇里线性排列前后次序相对应。例如，小鼠胚胎神经管的发育是从前端逐渐向后端延伸，相应地是含同源框的各个基因也按其在基因簇中的排列位置由前到后逐个表达。这表明基因是按照一定的时间程序逐个依次表达，引发一系列基因活动，从而逐渐形成神经管。有许多基因含有与同源框相似的dna序列。在比较其合成的氨基酸序列后，把同源程度在20％以上的归人同源域的“超家族”。例如，线虫的unc-86，以及哺乳动物的oct—1、oct-2和pit-1等同源域，均归入一个超家族。
